  • Letters in the National Archives of Australia from his mother to A.I.F. HQ as late as 1920 suggest that she had been told by another NZ serviceman that Richard had been killed in action. The fact that she wrote to Australian rather than New Zealand sources suggests that she had no idea that her son had returned to New Zealand prior to embarking as 3/3719 with an unknown unit in November, 1917 Public - Brian - Researcher - 19 July 2016 - National Archives of Australia : http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/ViewImage.aspx?B=3525355
