  • Embarked Wellington on board HT 'Maunganui', 21 November 1917; disembarked Liverpool, England, 8 January 1918, and marched in to Sling Camp.
    Admitted to Tidworth Military Hospital, 2 February 1918 (rubella); discharged to quarantine, 8 February 1918.

    Proceeded overseas to France, 15 May 1918; joined 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 19 May 1918, and posted to No 4 Company.
    Wounded in action, 23 August 1918 (gun shot wound, back: penetrating); admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance, 25 August 1918; transferred same day to 56th Casualty Clearing Station; to No 2 Canadian General Hospital, Le Treport, 25 August 1918 (placed on 'Dangerously Ill' list, 26 August 1918; removed from list, 30 August 1918); to England, 30 August 1918, and admitted to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames, 2 September 1918.

    Placed on NZ Roll, 27 September 1918, for return to New Zealand.

    Commenced return to New Zealand from Southampton on board HT 'Marama', 19 December 1918; discharged (no longer physically fit for Active Service on ccount of wounds received in action), 28 April 1920.

    Total war service: 2 years 312 days (of which 1 year 68 days was abroad)

    Died 1929 from old gun shot wound (spine): paraplegia 10 years; pyoneptrosis, 6 months; toxaenemia, 3 weeks.
