  • Ernest Ruby played rugby league for a short lived Riverhead rugby league club in 1916. After the team defaulted matches and withdrew from the competition he was granted a transfer to the City Rovers 2nd grade side. He then went away to war, possibly faking his age due to the timeline of rugby league playing. In the early 1920s he debuted for the City Rovers 1st grade side. He then transferred to the North Shore Albions (then known as Devonport United and played for them from 1926 to 1932. He also represented Auckland in 9 matches from 1927 to 1931 scoring 4 tries.
His rugby league career is partially documented in the Auckland Rugby League seasons which I wrote on wikipedia.
