They called it Passchendaele
The 3rd battle of Ypres
New Zealand soldiers bravely fought
But lost their lives in Hell
A 2nd Lieutenant was among the men
Harry Oswald Furlong Marsden
He was a bear
Fighting as hard as he can
October 4th 1917 was the day
This young man, just 26
In the prime of his life
His world colored grey
Shells were coming down, boom!
Did he finally meet his doom?
Bullets whistling around his head
Afraid, will he meet his death?
His wounds were slight
Another shell burst, he lost the light
In the mud, as thick as tar
Fighting for his life, yet lost his war
