  • One of the 50 Tuhoe soldiers who fought in WW1. Tamakaimoana. Pvt. World War 1, 1914-1918, sn.20046, 23rd Reinforcements Māori Contingent, embarked 22-Nov-1917 for Liverpool England. Labourer, next of kin - Te Whetu and Ruihi Paerata (parents) Ruatoki; b. 02-Jan-1897 Ruatoki, declared age as 20Y when he enlisted in 1917, dcd. 1945 age 44Y (Charles Timutimu Research Project).

    Urewera Lands Consolidation Scheme (Report of Commissioners as to position of). Appendix to the Journals of the House of Representatives, 1924 Session I, G-07."At a sitting of the Commission at Ruatoki in April last it was stated that a number of the Urewera Natives sold their lands prior to enlisting for the war; those who returned now find themselves landless, and they ask that the Crown give them land so that they may not be a burden on the members of their families." Te Whetu was listed as one of these men. AWMM
