      29 May 1916 Tuheke Matenga was wounded in action, receiving gunshot wounds to his head, arms and legs. After a week at No.22 General Hospital at Camiers, he was evacuated to England on 6 June. (Church, p.93) AWMM

  • "Tuheke's final posting took place on 24 April 1918 when he marched into the New Zealand Engineer Reserve Depot at Christchurch, near Bournemouth. One will never know what happened during his final hours, but he was found drowned in the River Stour at Christchurch on 14 May 1918." (Church, p.94)

    Tuheke is spelled Tuehe in the nominal rolls. AWMM
