  • Cleaned up your headstone last month, still remember you telling me stories when we visited you at home in Carey's Bay, I was only 7, it was a big walk from Sawyers Bay at the time, with mum pushing the pram with my younger brother in tow. trying to get more information about you, the maritime museum in port has a few documents. I also gave bill's grave a tidy as well, its getting full of our family up there, my mum s there along with grandma (your daughter Joyce).

  • Grandad I just thought I would leave you a Poppy. Isnt it strange until I googled your name I knew nothing of your military service as a soldier even though you are in the Port Chalmers Returned Servicemans Cemetery. I suppose I always thought the fact you were a ships engineer that that was your contribution to the war effort. It never occurred to me that you would have been old enough to serve in WW1. I think about you often as you and Grandma were so good to us. Xxx
