    • Joseph Theodore was born in Christchurch, one of six children. His parents were Joseph Wade (b.22.1.1861, d. 25.2.1921) and Alice Watson (b. 11.3.1861, d. 9.4.1930. His grandfather, the first Joseph, was born in England in 1833 and with his wife Eliza Sarah Brown, emigrated to Christchurch New Zealand with their children 1856.

Joseph's father, also named Joseph and grandfather (the first Joseph Wade) played bagpipes at the rail stations in Christchurch and New Plymouth to farewell each trainload of soldiers leaving for the Second World War.
This last, Joseph Theodore, was a champion Scottish dancer in his teen years in Christchurch, as was his sister, Olive Wade who was New Zealand champion Scottish dancer for many years and the only time she was beaten was when she dressed as a boy and competed against her brother (Joseph Theodore) who beat her. Joseph - a good-looking and popular man - was very briefly married to Hilda and did not have children. He spent the last years of his life alone in a little cottage in Onehunga, Auckland, close to where he worked as a wool classer (Public Source, April 2015). AWMM
    • Joe was gassed during WW1 and had problems with his lungs to the end of his life. He stayed with relatives in Scotland as a child and again following the war before returning home to New Zealand. Public - Ngairene - Other Relative - 15 May 2015 - Oral information from his niece.
