  • Walter was my Great Uncle so we have been raised hearing about his courage. He was a young man from small town NZ.

  • Walter attended Grey Main School and I am presently the principal. On ANZAC day this year we acknowledged all those ex students who lost their lives in WW1. I was privileged to read his name in the roll of honour and give details of life including being the recipient of the Military Medal. My late father Ron Messenger donated his Military medal to the Greymouth RSA and I have the other medals.
