    Private Ernest J. Miller, believed killed in action, was 22 years of age, and was the eldest son of Mr. J. Y. Miller, of Woodlea, Warkworth. He was an old Auckland Grammar School boy, and matriculated prior to joining the staff of the Union Steam Ship Company. At the time of enlistment he was [a] clerk in the employ of the Farmers' Freezing Company. He left New Zealand as a sergeant with the fourteenth reinforcements, but on reaching France was transferred as a sniper to the Otago Infantry. (Auckland Weekly News, 6 December 1917, p. 19) AWMM
