Lance-Corporal John Edmund Mills, who was recently reported to have been killed in action on April 29, received his primary and secondary education at the Petone District High School. He entered the teaching profession as a pupil-teacher at Khandallah, Wellington, in 1909, and, continuing his studies, gained the degree of Bachelor of Arts two years ago. Shortly afterwards he was appointed to the staff of the Levin District High School, and resigned to join the expeditionary force. He was 22 years old. (Auckland Weekly News, 1 July 1915, p. 21) AWMM
