James George Malone died suddenly in Te Karaka yesterday, removes one who had been a resident in the Gisborne district for the past 66yrs. Born in Auckland, Mr Malone came to Gisborne with his parents when only 2 years of age. He was educated at the Makauri School & followed his .father's calling becoming a road-making contractor. With his work he undertook many contracts, especially for the Cook County Council & Public Works Dept & was regarded by many as having exceptional ability for this class of work. When the Wellington-East Coast Mounted Rifle Regiment was formed in this district Mr, Malone was one of the early volunteers, & served with the Regt for many years. In the last war he proceeded overseas with the 29th Mtd Rfts & saw 2 1/2 yrs active service. A service will be held at the Catholic Church Te Karaka tomorrow & the funeral leave at 11 am for the Ormond Cemetery.
