  • "The second Niuean death in Egypt, which occurred after the first wave of troops had left for France, was 16/1087 Private Mitikele of Hakupu who died of heat stroke following sentry duty in the fierce midday sun." (Pointer 2000, p. 35)

    "16/1087 Private Mitikele died on 16 May 1916. He had previously been hospitalized in Egypt with bronchial problems then discharged from hospital in early May and assigned to duty at the Base Depot in Tel-el-Kebir War Memorial Cemetery, one of three New Zealand soldiers to lie there."
