  • My grandmother Grace Molloy was Cyril's first cousin, and the two families lived Oamaru. Grace's father was Henry Molloy. Grace (Sheehan) often talked about her cousin Cyril who died in the first world war- with sadness at his loss. He lived on in the memories of the Molloy family -his sisters, and my grandmother's family of 3 sisters, and those memories have been passed onto my mother Maureen, and to me so that we do not forget this brave man, who received a military cross for distinguished bravery in the field, then paid the ultimate cost of his own life 12 October 1917. A memorial oak is situated on South Hill Oamaru (corner of Lune St) to remember him.
