  • John Monahan was injured on 31 July 1917 at Basseville, southeast of Messines, receiving gunshot wounds to his scalp. He received medical attention in France for three weeks before admission to No.1 NZGH, Brockenhurst in August. He died one month later. (Church, p.91) AWMM
