    • Ashley Moore was the son of Agnes Moore, of "Wharepuni," 56 Milton St., Nelson, New Zealand, and the late James F. Moore. AWMM
    • Lance Corporal Ashley Charles Moore (1884-1917).
      (* Also known as Ashby Charles Moore).
      Service # 51660, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, 3rd Battalion, C. Company, 1NZEF.
      Born 17 July 1884 - at Nelson.
      Son of Mrs Agnes and (the late) James Moore - of 56 Milton Street, Nelson.
      Prior to enlistment for war service Ashley was employed as an engineer - by Kirsthows Engineering, 164 Hardy Street, Nelson.
      Ashley enlisted for war service on 9 March 1917 - at Nelson.
      On 12 June 1917 Lance Corporal Moore embarked from New Zealand - for overseas war service - aboard troop transport ship either HMNZT 86 or 87 - 'Tahiti' or 'Maunganui'
      On 16 August 1917 he disembarked from his troop transport ship at Devonport, England.
      On 23 September 1917 Lance Corporal Moore departed from Sling Camp at England for war service at France & Belgium.
      On 9 October 1917 Lance Corporal Moore joined his battalion in the field - at France - and joined 13th Company.
      3 days later on 12 October 1917 Lance Corporal Moore was killed in action at Passchendaele, Belgium. 12 October 1917 - at Passchendaele, Belgium - has been referred to as New Zealand's Blackest Day - where in the first 4 hours of fighting 846 New Zealand Officers and soldiers were killed in action or died of wounds in the field - including 47 Nelson men.
      Lance Corporal Ashley C. Moore is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Tyne Cot Cemetery, Zonnebeke, West Vlaanderen, Belgium.
      He is also remembered on the Nelson Cenotaph, ANZAC Park, Nelson City.
      Lance Corporal Ashley C. Moore's name also appears on the World War 1 'Wall of Remembrance' - in the Fernery, at Founders Park - which is on the same street - Milton Street - as Lance Corporal Moore's mother house.
