The "Waitemata" war horse : chronicles of H.M.N.Z. Troopship 7045

"On February 13th, our first day out from Wellington, we had the misfortune one of our mess - Driver Joseph Moore, of the 3rd Battn. 1st Line Transport.

Driver Moore was detailed for some fatigue work aft, and in carrying out this work his foot slipped, and he fell overboard. Although the ship was stopped and a boat lowered, which search round the spot for about an hour, no trace of the missing man could be found. Driver Moore was one of those cheery good-natured men, and his sad end was deeply regretted by all on board, and perhaps more especially by his old mates, the members of the 3rd Battn. 1st Line Transport."
