    • Son of William and Ann Morris, of Brunnerton, New Zealand AWMM
    • Ernest Russell Morris was born in Taylorville on 16 September 1896. With his brothers John and Jeffrey, he embarked with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force on the Willochra from Wellington on 16 November 1917 for Liverpool. He served with the 1st Batallion of The Auckland Regiment and tragically died of wounds at Le Treport, France on 6 Oct 1918. He was 23. Ernest is buried in the Mont Huon Military Cemetery, Le Treport (VIII.K9B). There is a memorial for Ernest and his older brother William in the Stillwater Cemetery. This memorial was made by relatives, Russell and Son, Monumental masons, New Plymouth.
