  • He was the son of James Edward & Argate Kate CULLEN (nee Mooney), from Maungaturoto. There were three sons – Edward Verne (b1893), Arnold Victor (b1895) and Stanley Guy (b1896).

    The three brothers enlisted with the NZEF - Edward Verne (78219), Arnold Victor (12/519) and Stanley Guy (21493).

    On the 24th June 1936, he married Irene Grace McLEOD at the Waipu Presbyterian Church. They lived in Maungaturoto and raised five daughters – Honor, Ngaire, Patricia, Coreen & Glenis. Public - Sandra - Researcher - 3 December 2018 - Waipu Museum

    CULLEN, Edward Verne (veteran First World War). On April 16, 1971, at Whangarei (late of Maungaturoto), dearly loved husband of the late Grace and much loved father of Honor (Mrs M K McAulay), Ngaire (Mrs M D McLean, Te Atatu), Patricia (Mrs P D Palmer, Tauranga), Coreen (Mrs E J Johns, Manurewa) and Glenis (Auckland); aged 77 years. At rest. A service will be held at the Presbyterian Church, Waipu, at 11am tomorrow (Tuesday), funeral then leaving for Waipu Cemetery. All communications to M K McAulay, the Bridge, Waipu.
