  • Patrick Renwick MOWAT
    (1897 - 1971)

My grandfather Patrick Renwick Mowat served in World War I. After the war, he and other returned servicemen were allocated land (by NZ Government) in the Mangapurua Valley. It was extremely hard living with little money and resources to maintain tracks, make a living etc. At some point, this venture was deemed not viable and in the end, the settlers abandoned the valley (the valley of abandoned dreams). Signs with surnames of where settlers once lived, are located on the Mountain to Sea trail from Ruatītī to the Bridge to Nowhere and through to the Whanganui River. Our brother Patrick Mowat and our son Tiwana Renwick Puohotaua are both named after Granddad Pat.

Remembering Granddad Pat this Anzac Day.
Your granddaughter, Maggie Kahurangi Mowat. X
