  • Edward's father - Fred Tyree (born Marylebone, London, England) was from the well known photography family - Tyree Brothers. Fred Tyree Snr who lived at Collingwood, Tasman District - travelled the Nelson, Marlborough and West Coast regions taking very high quality photographs. The Tyree Collection - held by the Nelson Provincial Museum at Nelson City - consists of 200,000 negative images.
    Trooper Edward Tyree was the brother of Sergeant Fred W. Tyree (1893-1960) : NZEF Service # 7/281, of the Canterbury Mounted Rifles Brigade, Main Body, NZEF. Sergeant Tyree served at Egypt and Gallipoli. Sergeant Fred Tyree was medically invalided (sick) to New Zealand - aboard HMNZ Hospital Ship 'Maheno' - arriving at New Zealand on 1 January 1916. He was discharged from the NZEF - on 4 May 1916 - as no longer physically fit for war service - on account of illness contracted on active service. Fred W.
