    • Edward John (Ned) Murphy was the son of the late James and Elizabeth Murphy, of Cape Foulwind, Westport, New Zealand. Native of Brighton, (Fox River), West Coast, New Zealand. Public - Kathleen - Other relative - 4 April 2016 - Family history. Brighton was the former name of the locality of the Fox River community on the West Coast and this is where the family members were born and lived. • In memory of Pvt Murphy who would have known my Great uncle John joseph Smyth (39474) John was from the west coast too. I note you joined at the same time, Were in the same reinforcements, same battalion and that sadly, you were both killed on the 12th August 1917 at La Basse Ville. I have no photo to share but take comfort in knowing that he was not alone. To your family; i am sorry for your loss.
