  • Albert Edward Ihaka was my Granddad. I never knew anything about his involvement in the War. Later in my life I saw a photo of him in his Uniform. What a fine looking young man he was. Granddad was a very talented person. A self taught oil painter and an amazing wood carver. Many of his Waka's went world wide. Granddad was quiet spoken and had the most amazing vege and flower gardens. I always thought he was a very special person and I am saddened that I don't know hardly anything about his early life and contribution to the War effort. Thank you Granddad - to me you are the most amazing ANZAC
