  • My Grandfather: - Walter Henry (Wally) Hooper was born on the 4th Dec 1885 Carterton, NZ and married Evelyn Ellery-Tacon. He was the son of Carterton farmer William John Hooper and Charlotte Compton. Brother's of Wally also served in WW1 - Edgar James who was wounded and William Frank and Joseph William. Wally died in 1959 in Foxton, NZ and is buried in the Foxton Cemetery, NZ. He was Pte 75679 Riffleman - Unit NZ Rifle Brigade. He served a total of 174 days - 1 year & 26 days abroad) and was discharged on the 23 September 1919. Wally and Evelyn had 16 children all born in NZ.
