    • Moeraki then transhipped to "Port Sydney" at Sydney for Suez. AWMM
    • He was the second son of John & Sarah Christina FINLAYSON (nee McLeod) from Waipu. They had ten children – Etta, Kitty, JD, MacLeod, Jessie, Cameron, Donald, Norman, MacKenzie and Alexander Neil. Two sons enlisted with NZEF and served overseas - John Donald (11/1550) and MacLeod (58387). Cameron (42199) enlisted and served in NZ.

      On the 19th July 1944, he married Alice Catherine Louise ALDER. They lived and farmed at ‘Braemar’, Waipu. They had two daughters – Jean & Morag. Public - Sandra - Researcher - 10 December 2018 - Waipu

  • Obituary
    Mr MacLeod FINLAYSON, who died at his home, Braemar, at Waipu on Tuesday, had a long record of service in the district and Northland. He was 71. A leading Shorthorn cattle breeder. Mr Finlayson was well known in agricultural circles as well as sporting and local body affairs. He had almost completed three terms as a Whangarei County representative on the North Auckland Electric Power Board. Mr Finlayson was a life member, patron and past president of the Northland Shorthorn Breeders Society and also a life member of the society’s Dominion council. He was a respected judge of milking shorthorns at A & P shows and popular with children as a calf club judge.
    SPORTSMAN, as a sportsman, Mr Finlayson was once an Otamatea football representative and later a referee. He was patron and a past president of the Waipu Football Club. In his youth he was a keen hurdler and then to help with the administration side of athletics. He was patron and a past chief of the Waipu Caledonian Society, an executive member of the Waipu R. S.A and the Northland Piping and Dancing Association and past chairman of the Waipu Cemetery Board and Waipu Hall Committee. Mr Finlayson is survived by a wife and a daughter, Jean, a school teacher at Papakura High School. (Northern Advocate, Jul 1965)
