  • Alfred Nicklin born 1886 was one of 4 brothers from Walsall, England. Three of them Alfred, Edgar and Leonard all emigrated to New Zealand with Harold remaining in England.
    Edgar born 1879 was in the 19th reinforcements of the New Zealand Army and survived the war, he died in 1967.
    Leonard born 1892 was a driver for the Field Artillery in the First New Zealand Expeditionary Force and survived the war, he died in 1982.
    Harold born 1889 was in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment and died on the 6 September 1917 during the battle of Paschendaele in Belgium, he is remembered on the Tyne Cot memorial.
