  • I am lucky enough to have a beautiful piece of Egyptian embroidered silk that Great Uncle Arnold sent home. It used to hang in the hallway of my grandmother's home (his sister). Although he had long since passed away, he was often mentioned during my childhood and was remembered by his siblings, nieces, nephews and their children.

  • My Grandma's loving older brother sent her silk embroidered postcards from Egypt which , sadly, she let me play with as a small child and they disintegrated. I remember them being brightly coloured and had his letter on the back starting "To my dear Cissie" and ending "your loving brother" Arnold died of war injuries after arriving home. His name is on the Winchester, South Canterbury, war memorial.
