  • David Barnes was the son of Henry and Emily Barnes

    Born in Australia, Barnes moved to New Zealand as a child circa 1904.

    His parents were living in Hinuera, Upper Waikato, New Zealand at the time of their son's death.

    He paid his own way to England, where he joined the Royal Flying Corps.

    Took his Flying Certificate at the Ruffy-Baumann School, Hendon, England, 5th August 1915.

    He had graduated as a service pilot earlier the very day he died accidentally. AWMM
