    • James Henderson Simmers was the son of George Annand and Isabella Glen (née Wallace) Simmers. He was educated at Waimataitai School, Timaru. His oldest brother, William Wallace Simmers, was killed in action in 1917 in France.

    • Both of his older brothers served during the First World War, 6/3461 Sergeant William Wallace Simmers with the Canterbury Infantry Regiment. He was awarded a Military Medal for acts of gallantry in the field and he was killed in action on the 13th June 1917. His other brother was 25/239 Robert Simmers who received the Military Medal and Bar and also a Russian Medal of St George, 2nd Class. His younger Brother served during the Second World War, 556544 Sergeant Alexander Glen Simmers with the New Zealand Infantry Brigade. Public - Kerry - Researcher - 22 December 2017 - Service records
