In the attack on the hill feature forward of Point 209 on 26 March 1943, Cpl. Tamou who was in charge of a section, displayed outstanding courage, coolness and leadership. Throughout the advance he directed his men, and his personal example was a great encouragement to them. During the attack on Point 209 itself on 27 March 1943 he was tirelessly aggressive, personally directing the fire of his light machine guns and firing a Spandau himself. During the attack he wounded in the hand but he carried on notwithstanding urging them on by word and deed. His initiative contributed in no small way to the success of the attack which resulted in about two hundred Germans being taken prisoners. His great courage and personal example was a source of inspiration to his men. (London Gazette 17/6/1943 (I)) The National Archives. Recommendation for Award for Tamou, Tame. (Ref. WO 373/25/218).
