      17 June 1943 AWMM
In the attack of 26 March 1943 on Point 209, Sgt. Walker was in charge of a section of carriers which had been given the task of defending the flank from any counter-attack or interference from the right. Sgt. Walker led his section most aggressively and then in boldly, operating at a distance of over two miles on the flank in enemy territory and drawing a considerable amount enemy fire upon himself and his section. But Sgt. Walker engaged the enemy for over two hours, silencing enemy positions and removing all threat of a counter-attack on our right flank. Nor did he give up his task until he was sure the battalion had consolidated, and he finally reported back after dark having done a splendid job. His aggressiveness and complete disregard for his own personal safety contributed in no small measure to the final success of a difficult operation. (London Gazette 17/6/1943 (I)) The National Archives. Recommendation for Award for Walker, John Isaac. (Ref. WO 373/25/211). Military Medal. AWMM
