    "O'Donnell, Private Frank Joseph, who has been reported killed in action, was the eldest son of Mrs J O'Donnell of Pentland Ave, Mt Eden, and was 24 years of age. He received a collegiate education and afterwards engaged on the staff of J R Dodson & Son of Nelson. Later on he followed mining on the West Coast. He was a keen football enthusiast and was a popular member of the Nelson Rival Football Club." - Auckland Weekly News 3 August 1916 AWMM
