    Military Medal (MM) AWMM
    17 Pipiri 1943 AWMM
"In the attack on Point 209 on 26 March 1943 this soldier was a stretcher-bearer attached to one of the companies that did the attack. During the advance his company came under very heavy mortar and machine-gun fire and several casualties resulted. Entirely regardless of his own personal safety he dressed the wounds of six men who were lying on high stony ground under heavy mortar fire. Having dressed the wounds he proceeded to dig slit trenches for the lying wounded and assisted the walking wounded back to the Regimental Aid Post. The next day his company carried out another attack on Point 209 proper and here again he displayed courage and devotion to duty of the highest order. Under heavy and sweeping light led a platoon with outstanding determination machine-gun fire he attended to the wounded in the wake of the attack. Throughout the whole action he displayed great courage and devotion to duty and worked untiringly treating and evacuating casualties until none remained on the field. (L.G. 17/6/1943 (I)) The National Archives. Recommendation for Award for Jones, Francis. (Ref. WO 373/25/224). Military Medal. 17 Jun 1943" AWMM
