The National Archives. Recommendation for Award for Lambert, Henry Colton Arundel. (Ref. WO 373/5/428). During the attack on Fonte Grande on 24 December 1943 Capt. Lambert commanded his anti-tank platoon with conspicuous initiative and energy. Under intense shell and mortar fire he brought the guns of one troop into position close to the infantry forward defended localities and with complete disregard of personal safety he supervised the siting of each gun in turn. Capt. Lambert proceeded then to reconnoitre positions for his second troop, without whose assistance the infantry position would not have been secured, and during the whole of this time he was the target of enemy shelling and machine-gun fire. Owing to the state of the ground, each gun had to be manhandled separately into position, one of guns being put out of action by enemy fire during the process. Capt. Lambert's courage, resourcefulness and initiative not only safeguarded the infantry positions but was a source of encouragement both to his own platoon and to the neighbouring infantry company. He undoubtedly contributed largely to the success of the attack. (L.G. 6/4/1944 (I)) The National Archives. Recommendation for Award for Lambert, Henry Colton Arundel. (Ref. WO 373/5/428).
