  • Eileen (Tessa), my Aunt and Godmother, served for four and a half years overseas, in Egypt and Italy. She was able to meet up with her two youngest brothers, Eric (my father) and Verne, who were also serving in those theatres. Charge-Sister Newcombe (as she was), was one of six nurses selected from the Auckland District to attend the Victory Parade in London following the end of the war. Nursing friends remembered a vibrant and attractive woman who enjoyed riding horses during her leave.
