  • I am researching the life of Matron Jean Miles Walker AANS died 1918 in the UK. Elizabeth Jean Carruth was the niece of Matron Walker. It appears that Matron Walker mother, Louisa Miles Walker moved from Tasmania via Sydney to live with her daughter (Elizabeth's mother) in New Zealand and I would be very interested in contacting any of the extant family in New Zealand about Matron Walker. It appears that the family originated in Wales in the early 1800's and moved as free settlers to Tasmania but I am really looking for information relating to Matron Walker's life in Tasmania and her time in the Australian forces in Egypt and on the Western Front between 1914 and 1918. If there is anyone who is able to help I would be interested to hear from them.
