      Four sons, brothers served in WW2 David Alexander (A 401219) James Duncan (NZ39713) and Newton Bishop Abbot (NZ451389) and Gavin Malcolm Abbot (80132).

      On embarkation Leading Aricraftman Abbot was an air gunner

      Royal New Zealand Air Force, 75 (NZ) Squadron, RAF (7 May 1940 to 17 October 1943)

      Cenotaph record initially prepared with the serviceman in 1999 AWMM
    • Awarded DFM on 20 july 1941 (at this date, he had completed 31 missions, flying hours 187.50. Remarks by Station Cdr : Sgt Abbot has carried out his operational flights qith a fine skill and dertermination that sets an excellent example to all other air gunners. His recognition is strongly recommended." Remarks by AOC : A rear gunner who, in addition to the coolness and courage he has displayed on operational flights, also sets a very fine example to his unit in the maintenance and pre-fligh preparation of his guns and turret.
