  • Son of Gavin Melville Abbot (WW1 13/280).

    Four sons, brothers served in WW2 David Alexander (A 401219) James Duncan (NZ39713) and Newton Bishop Abbot (NZ451389) and Gavin Malcolm Abbot (80132).

    Mr Abbot was a member of the Air Force ground staff on enlistment (between 1939 and 1940). He was transferred from Ground Staff to 'General Duties' Flying as a pilot. He was held in New Zealand as a Pilot Instructor until circa 1943. He was then made Captain of the Catalinas with the 5 and 6 Squadrons in the Pacific. AWMM
