  • Mr Bisphan offered his services as a wireless mechanic to the Royal New Zealand Air Force when he reached 18 years of age. They undertook to notify him when he would be required.

    In the meantime he was ballot for army service came up and he joined the signals section of 5 Divisional Signals and trained with the Otago Mounted Rifles as a wireless mechanic until 27 March 1943. He transferred to the RNZAF at Harewood as a wireless mechanic as was his original intention in 1940.

    He confirms that his training in the airforce and his overseas service stood him in good stead since 'those heady days'. AWMM
