John Barker

Letter, WW2 from Barker, written from a POW Camp to Cassie 1941: "4878 / Private J. Barker / Prisoner of War Camp / Oct. 8-10-41. Dear Cassie, Just a few lines to let you know that I am still alive and keeping quite fit and well. It is now just over four months since we were taken prisoner but the time has passed very quickly. We go out working on different jobs and on Sundays we usually have a day of rest, while we can now buy cigarettes in the camp. We get paid for working and it is quite a change to get away from camp for the day. I suppose you have all been worried over not hearing from me for such a long time, but tell all the girls that I am quite happy and I hope every-one is fit and well back "home". We are allowed to send one letter home every week now, so I will drop a line to one of you each week. I am in a tent with five other chaps from our old battalion, and we all get on really well together, and have many a good old game of cards to while the hours away when not at work. Well Cassie, I must close this short note hoping you receive it safely. Best Wishes to Graham and all at home and hope to be home with you very soon. Cheerio Love John." - This image may be subject to copyright
