    • Cenotaph record initially prepared with the serviceman in 1999. Listed as Captain at time of capture in the List of 2NZEF Prisoners of War. AWMM
    • Lieutenant L. C. Barton, reported missing, is the youngest Son of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Barton of Stanley Bay, Auckland. Lieutenant Barton, who is 23 years old, was born in Otahuhu and was educated at Takapuna Grammar School and Auckland University College. Before enlisting in December, 1939; he was teaching at Tolaga Bay. He was married in Cairo in June just before his unit went into action. his Wife being a member of the New Zealand Women’s War Auxiliary.
