  • Ian says : I had enlisted to go away with the 2nd Echelon but was held back by the Diary Board for quite a time to cart milk from the Rua Roa district to a factory at Te-Rehunga as Britain wanted cheese in large quantities and New Zealand did what Britain requested.

    I was slightly wounded three times and treated by our unit medical personnel as I didn't want to leave my unit.

    I was selected to go to the O.C.T.C in Britain, but came back to New Zealand on leave and didn't return to the Middle East as the war was nearly over in that area. I then went back to my occupation as a farmer.

    Served at El Alamein and Cassino. AWMM
