    • Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) AWMM
      DFC. On 3 November 1944, during a low level attack a 20mm shell exploded on the wind shield, shattering it and filling my eyes with perspex so that I could not see. After some seconds, while automatically climbing, I managed to scrape some of this fine glass away so that I had slight vision and was just able to get back to base. The CO "Put me up" for an immediate award of the DFC. AWMM
