  • As well as a patriot and hero my father was an artist, sculptor, writer, soldier, and worker. He exhibited works in the National Gallery, his stories and poems were published in The Listener and other publications. His wood carvings and furniture designs are part of at least two churches. He was an active member of the Anglican synod for years. He was a warm and generous friend to many people in need. A deep thinker he was invited to speak to priests and soldiers both. He gave himself to his family, his country, his church and his community. He taught his sons to serve rather than take.
His life continues through his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
I am very proud to have known him and so moved that the Auckland War Memorial Museum keeps the memory of him and all our other heroes alive. Ordinary men and women who did extraordinary things voluntarily when called. Thank you
