  • An interesting document in the Museum Archives supplied by Mr Dennis Masters is a copy of a programme for the "Grand Christmas Meeting. Atessa Turf Club" which includes the names of many of the members of 6 Reserve Mechanical Transport Company who were in Italy in December 1943. The race list, horse names etc. poke fun at the circumstances of life at the front - for example one of the entrants is listed as 'Mussolini, Mr Shickergruber's blk h 15 years (skin of his teeth-Italy)' and ''The Bludger, Mr A. Palamountain's blk h 5 years (once again-out of Cigarettes)'. AWMM
