  • Jack McKinney obtained his MA degree in 1939. He was active in the Wellington Methodist Harrier Club, being Champion and Club Captain in 1940.

    He was Chief Clerk, Office of Director of Medical Services, 2NZEF Italy 1945 when Mentioned in Dispatches, for administration of loading of hospital ships.

    McKinney returned to New Zealand from the Suez in August 1945 and reached Wellington on 16 September 1945.

    Subsequently he has served the New Zealand Methodist Church at Parish, District and National level.

    He was involved, along with Sir Duncan Stout (ex-consultant surgeon, 2NZEF), in writing and editing four medical history volumes between 1947 and 1954.

    McKinney's career included editing the New Zealand Official Yearbook, Statistics Department from 1957-75. His worked includes writing the Medical Units of 2NZEF in Middle East and Italy (1952) ; and as Assistant Editor the volumes New Zealand Medical Services in Middle East and Italy (1956), Medical Services in New Zealand and the Pacific (1958); and War Surgery and Medicine (1954).
