  • Ian McNeur recalled his parents' address at the time of embarkation as The Manse, Westport, New Zealand

The Auckland Museum Library's manuscripts collection contains an autobiographical account (MS 2005/41) entitled 'Early Recollections of Ian McNeur' written by McNeur in 1996. In it he recounts his childhood at Milton, his schooling, early working life at the Botany Division of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Wellington, his war service as a signalman attached to 23 Battalion in the Middle East and Italy, where he was badly wounded, and his post-war career as a horticulturalist in both New Zealand and Australia.
