    The RNZAF was redeployed in October and November 1944 to operate against the Japanese in the Bismarck Archipelago and Bougainville from bases in Emirau Island of the St Mattias Group, Los Negros in the Admiralty Islands, Green Island, and Bougainville. There were also RNZAF bases on Guadalcanal, Espiritu Santo in the New Hebrides and Fiji.

    The squadrons based on Emirau were: bomber reconnaissance (No.3, No.4, No.8, No.9 and No.4); fighter (No.19, No.22, No.23, No.25 and No.14). They were based at Emirau at various times between October 1944 and August 1945.
