    Stan May is quoted in the Auckland War Memorial Museum exhibit: 'Slogging up Italy' of 'Scars on the Heart', "I have been appointed leader of our dance orchestra of 8 players, we have done a lot of work, playing for dances for nurses, and for officers, etc.", and "Italy is about twice as hilly as N. Z., so you will realise it is a very difficult country to conquer quickly." AWMM
