  • Wallace's two brothers, Douglas and Lloyd, both fought in World War II and lost their lives.

    Wallace disembarked from the HS Maunganui for compassionate leave 13.12.1941, due to lose of his two brothers, and his mother was also terminally ill. She died a few months after his second brother was killed in action.

    The Nieuw Amsterdam was referred to as the Custard Ship. AWMM
